Hardeep Virdee - Director
Hardeep initially joined Helmores as an audit manager and was subsequently appointed a partner in 2003. He has over 30 years’ experience in practice. During this time he has gained an extensive understanding of the many issues affecting clients of a general accountancy practice. He works with many types of businesses, organisations and individuals in a broad range of sectors including owner-managed businesses, professional firms and consultants, property companies and the charity and not-for-profit sectors.
He enjoys working closely with clients to ensure there is a clear understanding of their requirements and takes pride in providing a high quality service.
He enjoys travelling, particularly overseas, visiting exotic parts of the world and trying out local cuisines.
Mark Cole - Managing Director
Mark has an extensive range of client experience across a number of sectors, but with particular expertise in the requirements of high net worth individuals/families as well a number of very high profile entertainers including their related corporate entities, with interests including media and publishing, professional partnerships, farming, property, aviation, as well as charities and other not for profit organisations. Mark became the Senior Partner in Bright Grahame Murray in April 2012, after having been Managing Partner for a number of years.
After University and spending his early professional career with two major international firms of Chartered Accountants where he attained senior positions, Mark joined Bright Grahame Murray in 1990, becoming a Partner shortly afterwards.
As a member of the Audit, Tax, Information Technology and Forensic and Expert Witness faculties at The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Mark specialises in the issues affecting high net worth individuals as well as entrepreneurial owner-managed businesses. He prides himself on being able to empathise with his clients and, having a close "hands-on" involvement with them as well as going the "extra mile", is able to gain an in depth understanding of their businesses and aspirations, providing value-added and practical solutions to the many issues they face such as fund-raising and cash management, strategic planning, tax efficient remuneration, employee incentivisation as well as exit strategy as estate planning.
Outside work, Mark divides his leisure time between town and country. Apart from absolutely everything Irish, Mark enjoys a wide range of music, theatre, literature and especially sport. He is a long standing active member of Rosslyn Park, London Irish Amateur and Munster rugby clubs.
Robert Moore - Director
Robert is a general Director within the practice and is responsible for all aspects of his clients’ affairs including strategic and tax planning, audits and accounting services. He is regularly involved in advising on business start ups, acquisitions and disposals.
Robert joined Bright Grahame Murray in 1985 and after a brief time away from the firm in the mid 1990s, he returned to become a Partner in 1998.
His family takes up much of his spare time although he does run a Scout Troop, which is time consuming but satisfying. He is also a keen motor sport enthusiast.
David Wakefield - Director
David advises clients on a wide range of tax and trust related matters having gained broad experience in all aspects of direct taxation. He has specialist knowledge and practical experience of domicile and residence issues which affect individuals, trustees and companies, offshore trusts and capital taxes.
David trained as a Chartered Accountant with a medium sized London practice and then chose to specialise in taxation. After a period assisting clients on UK corporate tax matters David also gained what is now the Chartered Tax Adviser qualification before spending five years in the specialist tax department of a major Jersey trust company. After returning to the UK he was at the helm of a tax group in the London office of one of the country's leading private client accountancy firms, subsequently joining Bright Grahame Murray in 2007.
David advises clients on a wide range of tax and trust related matters having gained broad experience in all aspects of direct taxation. He has specialist knowledge and practical experience of domicile and residence issues which affect individuals, trustees and companies; offshore trusts and capital taxes and seeks to provide pragmatic solutions to match clients' requirements. He also provides advice on enquiries raised by HM Revenue & Customs and has assisted with the notification of previously undisclosed tax liabilities including the HMRC and Liechtenstein Disclosure Facilities. David regularly helps non UK trustees and companies with their UK tax compliance and reporting responsibilities.
Away from work, David enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and guitar collection. The faithfully restored, very noisy, Ducati comes out occasionally in the summer.
Alan Rotman - Director
Alan takes a lead role in all aspects of the firm’s business support services as well as being responsible for administrative matters.
He has overseen the installation of IT infrastructure and is in charge of hardware and software development.
Alan has a very direct and hands on approach to his client work and involves himself on numerous assignments dealing with all aspects of accounting and taxation matters mainly for small family owned business.
A fanatical Arsenal supporter, Alan also manages to find time to enjoy his passion for golf.
Ahsan Miraj - Director
As a general audit Director, Ahsan acts for businesses across a range of activities and of all sizes, providing audit, accounting, taxation and general business advice.
Ahsan has particular knowledge of and interest in the property, financial services, charities and AIM sectors.
He has considerable experience providing support and guidance to a number of clients on the implementation of accounting standards. He is a member of the Audit and Assurance faculty as well as the Charity and Voluntary Group of The Institute of Chartered Accountants.
As well as his client responsibilities Ahsan sits on the firm’s Technical Committee, provides assistance with the firm’s system of audit quality control and acts as the firm's deputy money laundering officer.
Outside work Ahsan enjoys international travel, cricket, visits to the gymnasium and watching his favourite football team Manchester United.
Michael Guillem - Consultant
Michael was, until recently, the senior principal of Helmores, having been with the firm since 1982. He now acts as a consultant specialising in the property sector and family trusts. He has over twenty five years experience of working in the charity sector, has been involved in the setting up of new charities, is a trustee of a small grant making trust and has provided consultancy services to a broad range of charities. Michael is also a director of several property investment companies, and has considerable experience in both the residential and commercial property sectors.
James McGinley - Consultant
James joined Helmores in 1980 after several years in a top four firm and is a taxation specialist. He now advises on complex tax areas, including non residence and domicile, trusts and inheritance tax planning.
Nigel Hough - Consultant
Nigel qualified as a chartered accountant in 1988, and joined a medium-sized city firm where he became a partner in 1997. He joined Helmores in January 1999. Nigel has considerable experience particularly in looking after owner manager businesses and advising organisations in the not-for-profit sector.
Warren Hertzberg - Consultant
After qualifying in 1967 Warren built up a wider range of auditing and tax experience, including a period in the corporate tax department of a major city firm. He then joined a west end firm where he became a partner in 1974 gaining extensive experience in auditing, insolvency and tax, before joining Norman Alexander & Co as a partner in 1990. Warren now acts as a consultant, advising various clients on personal tax and related matters.
Derek Howorth - Consultant
Derek joined the firm in 1961 when the small firm he was training with at the time was taken over by Helmores. He became a partner in 1965. Derek is a past President of the Lawn Tennis Association, and has extensive contacts in the sporting world. Derek now acts as a consultant, administrating a number of trusts and providing advice to various clients.
